ABOUT ARTIST

Yuwantha Yasas is a Sri Lankan contemporary painter and printmaker whose practice navigates the sensorial, philosophical, and devotional dimensions of love. Grounded in rigorous academic training at Banaras Hindu University, where he completed both his B.F.A. and M.F.A. with Distinction, his work reflects a sustained engagement with Indian aesthetic thought - particularly the emotive and metaphysical layers of Sringara Rasa.

His paintings unfold as meditative fields in which intimacy, distance, and presence coexist. Rather than dramatizing emotion, he refines it - allowing gesture, touch, and ornamental detail to function as vessels of quiet intensity. His surfaces suggest not narrative closure, but suspended moments: a bloom held in offering, a gaze that lingers, a stillness charged with spiritual resonance.

His solo exhibitions at Paradise Road Galleries (2019, 2023) marked significant developments in his evolving visual language, while his participation in international exhibitions, including the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art, situates his practice within a broader transnational dialogue on contemporary print and painting practices.

In parallel with his studio work, Yuwantha contributes to the academic sphere as a visiting Lecturer at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, fostering conceptual and technical inquiry among emerging artists. Across media, his work proposes love not as possession, but as a shared state of becoming - an unfolding “Now” where the ephemeral and the sacred converge.
