Sudarshi Ranabahu
ABOUT ARTIST
Sudarshi Ranabahu (born January 19, 1991 serves as an visiting lecturer at the University of visual and performing Arts, and is a contemporary visual artist, researcher, and author of articles and books on visual art and art history as well as a psychological counselor.
She has participated in group visual art exhibitions held not only in Sri Lanka but also in countries such as India, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Mexico, South Korea, Turkey, Italy, Poland, Japan, Paris (France), and Egypt. Notably, she has taken part in the largest visual art exhibition held at the Sielecki Castle in Poland, as well as a group exhibition in Busan, South Korea, which featured 391 artists. Over the past nine years, she has participated in 48 group art exhibitions.
Her first academic qualification is a Bachelor’s degree specializing in Visual Arts from the University of Visual and Perfoming Arts. She subsequently obtained a Master’s degree in Fine Arts (Lalithakala Pathi) from the University of Kelaniya. In addition to her specialization in visual art, she has also obtained diplomas in History, Archaeology, and Psychology. She has completed international certification programs in mindfulness for professional trainers, counselors, and therapists conducted in the United States, as well as two archaeology courses.
Through her artistic work, she express experiences drawn from her personal life. One area she explores in depth is the concept of “first love,” particularly from the perspective of a woman—examining themes of heartbreak, endurance, and the rebuilding of life thereafter. The aim of this inquiry is to share her own experiences and those of others—regardless of gender—related to the theme of first love.
Her creative process includes painting, collage, mixed media, sculpture, and assemblage art.
Awards Received:
• The Arab International Art and Literature Oscar Magazine Award, organized under the leadership of Dr. Hassan, Advisor to the Director of the American Art Directorate for the Middle East Office, and Artist Mansour Younis, the Chairperson of the festival.
• The Da Vinci Appreciation Award, at the 2025 International Art Exhibition and Competition organized by the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Foundation and Joshua Art Studio in Karnataka, India.
• The Kala Vibhushana Award, conferred at the 2025 Sri Lankan National Honorary Awards Ceremony.
