Shehan Madawela
ABOUT ARTIST
Shehan Madawela (b. 1960) is a self-taught Sri Lankan contemporary artist whose work is influenced by the rich cultures and landscapes of Sri Lanka, India, Africa, Australia, and South Africa.
He developed his artistic skills through a Diploma in Painting at Kala Bhavan, Shantiniketan, India, from 1993 to 1995, followed by periods of living and working in Bangalore and Mysore. These experiences shaped his interest in nature, culture, and spirituality, which continue to influence his work.
Oil remains his preferred medium, often combined with metallic leaf and acrylics. His paintings are known for their vibrant textures, luminous colours, and strong connection to nature and culture. Through experimentation with different textures and techniques, Shehan continues to develop his own style across each body of work.
