Ranjith Perera

ABOUT ARTIST

Ranjith Perera (b.1942, Colombo) stands as one of Sri Lanka’s most evocative narrative realists, celebrated for his oil and charcoal paintings that illuminate the quiet dignity and vibrant spirit of rural life, cultural traditions, and native wildlife. Inspired in his formative years at Trinity College, Kandy, under the influence of master muralist David Paynter, Ranjith’s art is defined by warmth, classical precision, and an expressive energy that captures the soul of his homeland.

After a distinguished career spanning over two decades in Sri Lanka’s rubber industry, culminating in a directorship at Forbes & Walker Ltd., Ranjith transitioned to a full-time painting – a passion that had shaped him since childhood. His works, featuring toddy tappers, temple processions, mat sellers, striking architecture, and local fauna, serve not only as visual narratives but also as cultural preservation, honouring the everyday lives and layered history of Sri Lanka.
