Mahinda Bandara

ABOUT ARTIST

Mahinda Bandara is a Sri Lankan visual artist and academic based in Colombo. He currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Visual Communication Design at the Faculty of Visual Arts, University of the Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication Design from the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo. He later completed a Master of Visual Arts in Applied Arts at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India. His work has been exhibited internationally and featured in art camps, conferences, residencies, workshops, and major group exhibitions.


His practice is centered on what he describes as contemporary typography an innovative interpretation of art rooted in calligraphy. By combining rich, layered textures inspired by ancient calligraphic traditions with interconnected textual forms, he creates works that emphasize experimentation and personal expression. Grounded in human experience and emotion, his art seeks to transcend linguistic boundaries and convey feeling through a contemporary visual language.


He has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, presenting his work on prestigious platforms across Sri Lanka and abroad.
