ABOUT ARTIST

Asela Abeywardene is a multidisciplinary Sri Lankan artist whose practice spans ceramics, painting, sculpture, and Ikebana. Primarily recognized as a ceramicist, she has exhibited her work extensively both in Sri Lanka and internationally, earning numerous accolades for her three-dimensional art. Among her most notable achievements is the First Place Award at the Dubai Ceramics Award (2017), organized by the American University of Dubai and judged by Magdalene Odundo (OBE), Vice Chancellor of the University for the Creative Arts, UK.


Her work has been featured in art journals and used as illustrations in poetry publications, reflecting the depth and versatility of her artistic expression. Deeply committed to innovation, Asela continues to explore the boundless potential of ceramics as a medium to shape and define a distinctly contemporary Sri Lankan visual language. Beyond her studio practice, she has conducted numerous workshops with various organizations, emphasizing the role of art in enhancing personal and collective well-being.
