“Introspect” a joint exhibition by Sanjeewani Hewavitharane and Chamari Thapaswarage.
Sanjeewani’s art explores the intimate relationship between woman and their spaces, particularly within cultural frameworks. Inspired by the weaving traditions of the South, such as ” Renda”, Beeralu, and lace, her work highlights the enduring legacy of women’s craftmanship. By reinterpreting these traditionally ” womanish” practices, she challenges societal norms and redefines their creative potential.
Chamari’s work captures the personal struggle of historical existence and the tensions between individuality and societal expectations. Through the woman as both muse and subject, her creations embody the paradoxes of life- calm yet turbulent, restless yet enduring.
