Walking through rice fields in the deep south after the harvest had been brought in made me contemplate the structure, purpose, and potential of all things that nourish us.

As far as the eye could see, the land lay scorched, depleted, and exhausted with remnants of the harvest, awaiting its next reincarnation. What magic does nature perform to enable rebalance, regeneration and renaissance? How can societies mimic this magic after engineered collapse?

 

The simple definition of Fallow is ‘ a state of being characterized by inaction or [being] unproductive. ‘ This definition, however does not capture its purpose and tends to give it a negative connotation. The longer definition reveals more:( of farmland) ploughed and harrowed but left for a period without being sown in order to restore its fertility or to avoid surplus production.” Here, it all alludes to a process of restoration – a subterranean mechanism working in harmony with external elements.

 

This collection carries ecological over tones and political undertones. It reflects forces that organically engineer and rework themselves to accommodate something new. Nature, finding niches, exploiting fissures and transforming  inert materials and spaces. enables and sustains life- doing what it does best to ensure the continued evolution of our word.
