Stanley Kirinde

Biography

Stanley Kirinde (1930-2009) born in the hill capital, was educated at Trinity College Kandy and the University of Ceylon. He joined the Public Service soon after graduating in 1956 and held several high posts. He retired as the State Secretary of the Ministry of Ports and Shipping in 1990.

ABOUT ARTIST

Kirinde, a self taught artist, is considered one of Sri Lanka's most outstanding artistic talents of the 20th century. Working primarily on canvas and on paper, his works are part of numerous local and international, public and private collections.


He exhibited initially with the Sri Lankan Modernist - Group of '43 and thereafter, displayed selectively throughout the world. His works have been included in exhibitions at the Smithsonian Institution (USA), at the Festival of Asian Art – Fukuoka, Japan and in the landmark exhibition of South Asian Contemporary art, Colours of Karma, at the Nehru Centre, London in 2005.
