Ruwangi Amarasinghe
ABOUT ARTIST
Ruwangi Amarasinghe (b. 1989, Colombo, Sri Lanka) is an
accomplished artist and illustrator, renowned for her unique blend of
mediums, including acrylic painting, digital art, illustration, and
installations. A self-taught painter with a deep artistic heritage,
Ruwangi holds a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, where she
specialized in illustration.
Currently, she serves as the Head Illustrator at Fold Media Collective,
a collaborative group of creative professionals she has been working
with since 2012. Ruwangi has also ventured into muralism,
contributing her art to public spaces across Sri Lanka, and her
illustration work spans diverse domains, from children’s books and
maps of Colombo and Sri Lanka to 2D animations, character designs,
and textile print designs. She also contributes her creative expertise
as the lead designer for Smoke & Bitters, one of Asia’s 50 Best Bars.
Ruwangi’s true artistic voice comes to life on canvas, where she fuses
acrylics with ink, charcoal, pastels, and markers to create works that
explore themes of surrealism, fantasy, and storytelling. Her personal
work is deeply influenced by her fascination with the cosmic universe,
consciousness, emotions, science fiction, and nature. Through her
expressive and vibrant style, she invites viewers into a world where
the boundaries between reality and imagination blur.
