Pradeep Chandrasiri

Biography

Pradeep Chandrasiri, a visual artist with over 25 years of experience in art scenography, gained prominence in the 1990s. He draws inspiration from personal memories of political violence in 1980s Sri Lanka. Chandrasiri holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Kelaniya (1997) and a Masters of Arts History from the University of Kelaniya's Post Graduate Institute of Archaeology (2011). He currently teaches theatre and production design at multiple Sri Lankan universities.

ABOUT ARTIST

Chandrasiri has participated in various local and international art programs since 1998, including the Fukuoka Asian Art Triennial (2002) and Colombo Art Biennale (2009). He received the Commonwealth Art and Craft Award in 2003, allowing him to join a visiting artist program in Australia. He's also known for his award-winning theatre set designs for the National Theatre Festival of Sri Lanka. Chandrasiri was part of the '90s Trend art movement in Sri Lanka, which embraced contemporary art and social context.


Moreover, Chandrasiri is a founding member and executive committee member of Theertha International Artists Collective in Colombo. Currently based in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
